Joelle M. Abi-Rached is a medical historian and a medical doctor. She is currently an invited researcher at the École normale supérieure (as part of the “Chaire Moyen-Orient Mediterranée”) and at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (Centre Alexandre Koyré). She is coauthor of Neuro: The New Brain Sciences and the Management of the Mind (Princeton University Press, 2013) and author of the forthcoming book ʿAṣfūriyyeh: A History of Madness, Modernity and War in the Middle East (MIT Press, 2020).
